Legends Day is one of Clinton Raceway’s signature events, a biennial celebration first held on August 26, 2001, that brings together some of harness racing’s most accomplished drivers, trainers, and horses for an afternoon of racing in support of the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation. Over the years the card has drawn Hall of Fame reinsmen — including John Campbell, who has won the feature multiple times, and Doug Brown, who once swept the featured trots in a single afternoon — alongside a strong supporting cast of veteran horsemen from across the Ontario circuit.
The centerpiece of the day is the Legends Day Invitational Trot, historically raced for purses in the $15,000–$20,000 range, and this year’s edition (Race 7) carries a $20,000 purse — the richest race on today’s card. The field is loaded with proven, battle-tested trotters carrying six-figure lifetime earnings, including Myretirementdream ($434,522 life), Tymal Riggs ($355,815 life), My Buddy Sam ($155,161 life), and Mercutio ($276,752 life), making it a true “legends” gathering of horses who have already proven themselves at the top of their class. Beyond the featured trot, Legends Day typically includes on-track festivities such as the Pineridge Chicken Dinner and other fan activities, turning the day into as much a community celebration as a top-level racing card.
