Post time is 6:30 p.m. for the 120th racing day of the meet, and Mohawk kicks off its five-nights-a-week summer schedule (Mon, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun) with an 11-race card anchored by two Ontario Sires Stakes Gold divisions and a $75,000 guaranteed Early Pick 5.

Feature Race: Race 9 – $100,000 Ontario Sires Stakes Gold, Leg 2 (2-Year-Old Trotting Fillies)

Tonight’s marquee event is the second leg of the OSS Gold series for freshman trotting fillies, carrying a $100,000 purse — the richest event on the card. Headlining the field is #2 Major Contender, a $110,000 Harrisburg purchase out of a full sister to $525K earner Mister Muscle, who was narrowly nipped at the wire in her debut after trailing early in a seven-horse field. She’ll need to hold off #6 Northernlights Glo, a homebred half-sister to millionaires Duly Resolved and Righteous Resolve who’s drawn the rail after a runner-up effort last time, and #4 Cold Breeze, who broke through with a determined pocket-to-lead win in her most recent start. With driver Doug McNair (30% win rate) and several live barns represented, this field looks like the class test of the night for this crop of Ontario-sired trotters.

Race 3 also carries a $100,000 OSS Gold purse for a separate group of 2-year-old trotting fillies, giving the card a rare doubleheader of six-figure stakes action, while Races 1, 5, 6, and 10 offer $30,000 Grassroots divisions for the up-and-coming freshman trotters working their way up the Sires Stakes ladder.

   LONGSHOT: #7 CATITUDE (9-2) – Wide post is a mild negative, but he’s been competitive in every start at this level and has tactical speed to work with.

1. #2 REBEL MOON (2-1) – Trotted a professional first-over mile to win Leg 1 and has been sharp in every appearance.
2. #5 VERILY (3-1) – Won Leg 1 from off the pace with a game stretch drive, proving she handles this class.
3. #7 QUEEN OF BS (7-2) – Has finished in the money in both career starts and gets a live driver switch to James Macdonald.
   LONGSHOT: #8 STORMONT MAGENTA (10-1) – Well-bred closer who rallied from a bad trip last time; losing Roy actually helps her price, and the extra distance of trip suits her closing kick.

RACE 4 – NW1, 4YO & YOUNGER PACE
TOP 3:

1. #7 MASSCHETTE (2-1) – Fastest closing quarter in the field last week and is the only multiple-placed horse with genuine tactical speed.
2. #8 BROADWAY STAR (4-1) – Improved in all four career starts and was only three-quarters of a length behind the top pick last out.
3. #2 WILD ROSE HANOVER (7-2) – Trotted (paced) a career-best 1:54.4 last start with a strong closing kick; been knocking at the door.
   LONGSHOT: #9 PETE GREEN (15-1) – Won gate-to-wire last qualifying-caliber start with a similar barn/driver connection; drew trouble two back but has tactical speed if he gets away clean.

RACE 5 – OSS GRASSROOTS LEG 2, 2YO TROT FILLIES
TOP 3:

1. #3 GREEN SILVERADO (2-1) – Blew the field away by six lengths in her debut and has been training forward each week.
2. #10 STORMONT VIOLET (7-2) – Won her only start wire-to-wire without ever leaving the pylons, showing professional tactical speed.
3. #1 QUEEN G (9-2) – $300,000 half-sister to a millionaire, showing improvement with each start and gaining ground late.
   LONGSHOT: #9 SNOWDREAM HANOVER (10-1) – Ran second in a recent prospect race showing real speed early; drops back to statebred company tonight.

1. #5 APPERTINO (2-1) – Got nailed in the final stride last time after setting a clear pace; that’s a much better effort than the mornng-line suggests.
2. #6 EMMA DEO (9-2) – Closed hard from a boxed-in trip and draws the rail tonight for a cleaner run.
3. #9 TYMAL ROCKSTAR (7-2) – Has shown tactical speed in both starts and can control the pace from a workable post.
   LONGSHOT: #1 TIC TAC FASHION (6-1) – Led much of the way in a qualifying-caliber try and finished a close second; capable of an upset if she gets an uncontested lead. (Note: I’m discounting #8 Social Hour despite her pedigree — she’s missed a month with only qualifiers on her card, no pari-mutuel starts.)

RACE 8 – FM, 4YO & YOUNGER, NW1

1. #10 ALWAYS BE EMMA (7-2) – Moved to a high-percentage barn and rallied for a clear-cut second after being forced five-wide; post 10 is a concern but her recent trip trumps it.
2. #6 SWEET MARY LOU (3-1) – Consistently in-the-money and gets a fresh trainer switch to Paul Court.
3. #9 CHRISTINE MICK VEE (4-1) – Won first-over last time out and has improved in every start.
   LONGSHOT: #5 BET ON JANE (10-1) – Wired the field by nearly 10 lengths two back before running into a track-record-setting rival; formful and drops back to an easier spot.

RACE 9 – OSS GOLD LEG 2, 2YO TROT FILLIES
TOP 3:

1. #2 MAJOR CONTENDER (2-1) – $110,000 Harrisburg buy who was just nipped at the wire in her debut after trailing early; big forward step expected.
2. #6 NORTHERNLIGHTS GLO (3-1) – Held second in a much-improved second start and now draws the rail.
3. #4 COLD BREEZE (9-2) – Won going away last start with a strong pocket-to-lead move.
   LONGSHOT: #5 TWIN B KINGSLEY (8-1) – Sharp winner on debut who simply got jammed up in traffic last time; drew a workable post to try again.

RACE 10 – OSS GRASSROOTS LEG 2, 2YO TROT FILLIES
TOP 3:

1. #5 BEBA BLUE CHIP (2-1) – Closed determinedly to get up for second last time and has the best post-to-post form in the field.
2. #6 CANADIAN QUEEN (4-1) – Fought through traffic to win the place spot in a gritty stretch drive.
3. #2 ELUSIVE STATION (6-1) – Overcame a 13-length deficit at the half to win her qualifier by six-plus lengths — that’s a statement debut.
   LONGSHOT: #9 LADY JAG (8-1) – Has improved in both career starts, closing from far back each time; more room to move forward.

RACE 11 – CL $8,000 PACE
TOP 3:

1. #1 GLORYVIEW IMAGE (2-1) – Seven wins already this year, does his best work on the front end, and now benefits from the switch into a leading barn (Jamie Copley).
2. #2 SMOKESTACK (3-1) – Has been aggressively and effectively driven into contention in back-to-back sharp efforts.
3. #4 THE DARK PANTHER (7-2) – Improved off the claim into the high-percentage Court barn and gets a live driver upgrade to James Macdonald.
   LONGSHOT: #8 DOCS ROCK (8-1) – Won two of his last three starts at Hanover and gets a trainer switch to a hot connection (Gerard Demers), giving him a live shot at a price.
