#1 FOREFATHER (5-1) — Best mile of the season two starts back closing hard from the outside. Draws inside tonight in a 7-horse field — much more favorable. James Macdonald in the bike.

#2 SERGEANT SLAUGHTER (6-1) — Dominated at Flamboro in two straight starts as the odds-on favorite. Should get an easier trip in this smaller field. L Roy replaces Macdonald.

#7 PENNTELLER HANOVER (3-1) — Seasonal debut showed plenty of trot despite being shut off. Drops in class tonight and adds Lasix. L Roy/Luc Blais combo has a 23% win rate. Analyst’s top selection for the Pick 4 opener.

#2 COVER BAND (6-1) — Strong first-over winner three starts back. Gets James Macdonald back and returns to his best class level. Schneider barn has been competitive.

#4 PESO HANOVER (5-1) — Claimed by Gerard Demers, who has a stellar 37.4% UTRS. Three consecutive third-place finishes closing well. Sharp and consistent.

#2 SERIOUSLY HANOVER (7-2) — Game second last week in a tough trip. Jean Rene Plante/Garry Merner combo (Merner at 32.4% UTRS). Could reverse the result with a cleaner trip.

#5 SAULSBROOK IAN (6-1) — Three improving efforts including a win last out. Closed in 26 and change twice recently. Tyler Borth/Rob Fellows combo solid (Fellows at 30.2% UTRS).

LONGSHOT: #3 BAYFIELD BEACH (8-1) — Douglas McNair takes over and this horse has finished third in three straight at this exact class level. Trainer Jamie Copley is quietly 4-0-0-1 this meet. With a claim entered last out he still fired a solid effort — at 8-1 he offers real exotic value for another share.

#8 EARLY PLAY (5-1) — Best effort of the year last week, lowered his lifetime mark racing first-over. Travis Cullen/Jodie Cullen — the dominant trainer at Woodbine with 47 wins on the season. Analyst takes a price stab here.

#5 TELLIT RUSS TELLIT (3-1) — Won all three legs of this series including two as a heavy favorite. Won wire-to-wire last week. James Macdonald/Garry Merner — both among the season leaders.

#10 TITANIC HANOVER (7-2) — Big win in Leg 2 after improving effort in Leg 1. Re-claimed by Team Waxman, who clearly believe in him. Draws the outside but recent form is strong.

LONGSHOT: #9 HES SWIFT (4-1) — Phil Hudon/Jay Polifroni combo has a remarkable 40% win rate and $5.02 ROI in just 5 starts together. Captain Butler showed a sharp qualifying effort and won convincingly at Flamboro in December. Drops to the bottom condition level tonight and could wake up freshened at a big price.

Race 10 — Trot, $22,000 NW Conditioned

#8 DISTANCE LEARNING (7-2) — Analyst’s Best Bet of the night. Two wins earlier in the season, has been facing much tougher competition since. Class drop tonight, and Brady Galliers/Rob Fellows is a live combo. Three wins expected to come.

#2 KADIDDLE (6-1) — Gets a class drop and showed two big moves last time at this level. Scott Young has a surprising 33% win rate in 6 starts with this trainer combo ($15.73 ROI — enormous value indicator).
