Weekend Betting Preview – June 15 to 17
There is something for every sports bettor this Father’s Day weekend starting on Thursday with the opening matches of the 2018 World Cup in Russia to Sunday’s final round of the 2018 US Open at Shinnecock Hills. Football fans can look forward to opening day ‘north of the border’ in the CFL with four games on tap in Week 1 of the regular season schedule and there is always a full slate of MLB betting action on tap from Thursday through Sunday.
BetAnySports has listed Brazil as a +400 favorite to win the World Cup title and it will start its quest on Sunday as a -256 favorite against Switzerland in a 2 p.m. (ET) start. The second-favorite on the World Cup futures board is Germany at +500 betting odds. The defending champs open up this competition with a match against Mexico on Sunday at 11 a.m. as a -204 favorite.
Spain (+650) will be in action on Friday at 2 p.m. as a +102 favorite against Portugal in one of the tightest matchups in the opening round. France is also listed as a +650 third-favorite to win the World Cup and it will square off against Australia early Saturday morning in a 6 p.m. start as a -435 favorite.
Professional golf’s second Major gets underway on Thursday with first round action from Shinnecock Hills. Dustin Johnson regained his No. 1 world ranking with last week’s victory in the FedEx St. Jude’s Classic and he has been opened as a +900 favorite to win his second-career US Open. Tiger Woods will be gunning for his fourth-career US Open title since last winning this tournament in 2008. His odds to win have been set at +1400.
Week 1 of the CFL opens up on Thursday night at 8:30 with a West Division clash between the Edmonton Eskimos and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers with the Eskimos set as seven-point road favorites. The top CFL game of the weekend sends the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on the road as nine-point underdogs for Saturday night’s inter-division tilt against the Calgary Stampeders. This will mark the CFL debut of Johnny Manziel as the Tiger-Cats’ newest quarterback.
One of the top MLB matchups on the slate this weekend is a three-game NL Central showdown between the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Game 1 on Friday night from Busch Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale is the featured game on ESPN starting at 8 p.m.
